September 1996 -- A fast-moving twister engulfed the small midwestern town of Valparaiso, Ind., this month, sweeping a local couple hundreds of miles west to Washington state and Vancouver Island, B.C.
There, Linda and Bill Dingee encountered two men bearing Bill's own name.
The meeting of the three Bill Dingees shouldn't have been so unusual for the Indiana Bill Dingee. After all, "B2" as he's known, is the son of Bill Dingee (B1) and the father of Bill Dingee (B3).
But the meeting of his namesakes in Canada was an historic one, as the two families discovered they could trace their roots to the second generation of Dingees who came to America several hundred years ago.
Bill and Linda; Bill's younger brother, the rock musician-turned-computer nerd, Chuck Dingee; and Chuck's wife, Kathy Sheehan, spent a couple of days in Port Renfrew with the Canadian Dingees, hiking in the old growth forests, picking mushrooms -- it was a GREAT year for chanterelles -- and even spotting a black bear!
The theme for this year's vacation was taken from a movie Bill and Linda saw just before flying to the West Coast.
